A Content Marketing Plan – Where to Start?
Many say that content marketing is the new SEO. It’s that important. Interestingly enough though, most law firms don’t have a content marketing plan or fully understand how to develop one.
According to Joe Pulizzi’s excellent book entitled “Epic Content Marketing,” – “content marketing is the process of developing and sharing relevant, valuable, and engaging content to a target audience with the goal of acquiring new customers or increasing business from existing customers.”
So where do you start? Strategy! I recommend that you have a mini content strategy campaign for every “significant content piece.” And the format I suggest you start with is video. Once you have your content piece in video form, you can easily transcribe it and format it in other ways and for other platforms.
Here are some examples of other content formats to consider incorporating into your content marketing plan.
- Article
- Blog post
- Ebook
- Podcast
- Webinar
You will also need to decide what platforms you want to publish to. We all tend to think of social media platforms, but there are many other platforms to consider as well.
- Amazon/Kindle
- iTunes Podcast
- Press
- Website
- Wikipedia
The next step is to make sure your content piece comes up in the most powerful and popular search engines.
- Amazon
- iTunes
- YouTube
